Views sought from unpaid carers on council support

Unpaid carers in Peterborough have until 3 November to share their views

An army of unpaid carers is to have its say on how support from a city council can be improved.

Peterborough City Council said feedback from a newly launched survey will help shape further rollouts of its All-Age Carers Strategy - a document created in collaboration with experienced carers.

Carers have until 3 November to provide suggestions as well as tell the council what they believe is working well.

Councillor Shabina Qayyum, cabinet member for adults and health, said: “We want to improve our level of support for carers in Peterborough."

She added: "We understand the vital role they play in keeping residents independent at home for longer and how demanding this can be.

“Recently our carers helped us to produce the All-Age Carers Strategy and we now want to determine the next stages of implementing this into our organisation. Who better to tell us how to do this, than carers themselves?"

Unpaid carers usually undertake responsibilities and duties to help a family member, partner, or friend who needs assistance including cooking, cleaning or personal care.

A series of workshops – attended by those with carer experience – will take place on 21 and 26 November.
