An inquest has opened after a charity campaigner died following an accident in Jordan.

Claire Lomas started fundraising after she was paralysed in a horse riding accident in 2007, and completed a number of challenges including finishing the London Marathon in a robotic suit.

The 44-year-old, from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, was taken to the King Hussain Medical Centre in Amman, where she was pronounced dead on 22 August.

Her body was identified by her spouse, Daniel Spincer, the inquest at County Hall in Glenfield heard.

Assistant coroner for Rutland and North Leicestershire, Isobel Thistlethwaite, extended her "very sincere condolences" to Ms Lomas's family as the inquest was adjourned to 25 November.

During televised coverage of the Great North Run on Sunday, an event Ms Lomas completed in using a bionic suit in 2016, presenter Gabby Logan paid tribute to her as an "incredible, inspirational woman."

She added: "It's people like Claire who will have got so many of these thousands here off the sofa, got them moving, been inspired."
