Race organisers intend to utilise all contingency sessions available where possible

Rain showers around the Manx Grand Prix course have led to the cancellation of a fourth evening qualifying session.

Race organisers called off the practice shortly before roads were due to close at 18:00 BST.

All of the event’s evening sessions have so far been cancelled and Sunday’s opening laps were curtailed by a red flag incident, in which Irish racer Louis O’Regan was killed.

However, an afternoon contingency qualifying session was held earlier, with roads around the Mountain Course closed between from 12:30.

Weather warnings

The afternoon closure was one of several extra sessions built into the 2024 event schedule to account for disruption.

The additional session was put on to allow all classes the chance to take to the 37.73-mile (60km) course.

A further road closure had been set to take place from 18:00, weather permitting, with roads due to reopen again no later than 21:00, but has been abandoned.

Racing at the 2024 Manx Grand Prix, which runs until Monday, has already been pushed back by a day due to the hold-ups with qualifying.

Weather warnings remain in place for worsening conditions over the coming days.

Ronaldsway Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and gales from 19:00 until 07:00 on Thursday, while an amber warning is in place for coastal over topping and inner harbour flooding around high tide overnight.
