Qualifying for the 2024 Manx Grand Prix has been cancelled for a second evening in a row due to rain around the course.

While roads around the 37.73-mile (60km) had closed at 18:00 BST, showers hit the island before the first bikes were due to set off the grandstand on Glencrutchery Road.

Race organisers had warned a risk of isolated showers could affect the running of the session.

The event’s opening round of qualifiers was cut short by a red flag incident at Kate’s Cottage, which led to the death of Irish competitor Louis O’Regan.

That was followed by the cancellation of the second session on Monday as the island was hit by near gale force winds and heavy downpours in he afternoon and into the evening.

And the island is set to be hit by more gales overnight, with a yellow weather warning set to come into force from 23:00 until 15:00 on Thursday.

Ronaldsway Met Office said the island was facing “a period of very unsettled weather for summer” in the latter part of the week.

Qualifying for the event is set to continue in the evenings until Thursday, with contingency session available during the day, and racing is set to begin on Friday.
