Saltash Tunnel to close overnight for two weeks
- Published
Drivers planning to use the Saltash tunnel have been asked to allow extra time for their journeys over the next two weeks.
From Tuesday, the tunnel will shut from 20:00 to 06:00 GMT on every night until 17 December.
National Highways said diversion routes would be in place and survey and preparatory work would begin ahead of a refurbishment in 2025.
The work is part of a £20m project to modernise the tunnel, which will include improvements to the electrical systems, new LED lighting, as well as fans and signage.
'Plan journeys'
National Highways tunnel manager Julian Mitchell said it was "difficult to work safely within the structure without closing it overnight".
"We're keeping all closures to an absolute minimum, we thank all drivers and residents in advance for their co-operation and patience and advise people to plan their journeys and allow a little extra time," he said.
The main upgrade will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase starting early in the new year and the second phase from summer 2025.
