An application to knock down a pub in Paignton and replace it with a car park would be "a shame", a local MP has said.

The Fragrance Group has submitted plans for a new car park on the site of the Inn on the Green, which closed in October.

The application said the car park would be for use by the public and patrons of two new hotels built by the company along the seafront.

MP Steve Darling questioned if another car park was "really the best we can do for Paignton?"

Investment in Torbay

The Fragrance Group has built hotels for Mercure and Ibis Styles in the vicinity, as part of a multi-million-pound investment in Torbay.

The plans come as demolition begins on the remaining section of the nearby Garfield Road multi-storey car park, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

It added Torbay Council is planning wholesale redevelopment of the site with new homes and businesses.

The multi-storey car park at Crossways also came down last year, with a temporary ground-level car park now in its place.

People have until the end of the month to make representations on the plans.
