The GSPCA has paid tribute to its former manager and president, Jayne Le Cras, who died on Tuesday.
Jayne worked there for 16 years before retiring in 2010, caring for many animals over the years including two lion cubs.
The organisation said she was "a real force of nature; passionate and dedicated to her friends, family and animal welfare".
The GSPCA added: "She had a big heart and her commitment to the staff and animals reached beyond her role and certainly beyond her retirement. "
Mrs Le Cras made the decision to step down as operations manager in 2010 to focus on her family, following a breast cancer diagnosis four years previously.
On her retirement, Jayne said she hoped her legacy would be the way the organisation had grown in that time.
She added: "I hope whoever comes in now has the same passion and love for the place I have... I want it to be around in another 100 years."
The GPSCA said: "She was a great friend to many, generous with her time, supportive and highly respected.
"She will be greatly missed by all that knew her; it's a sad day for the GSPCA but we must remember her strength and her unwavering passion for animals.
"Our sincere condolences to her friends and family. Thank you for everything Jayne."
