A new memorial plaque could be installed remembering the civilians of a Wiltshire town who died during World War Two.

Chippenham Town Council wants to add the plaque to the existing war memorial in Market Place.

If approved, the plaque, which would be installed on the plinth, would include the names and ages of 11 people and also make reference to the animals who died in service during the conflict.

The application, submitted by the town council to Wiltshire Council, said the plaque would "enhance the historic significance of the war memorial by providing details of those civilians of the town who lost their lives during the Second World War".

"At present, there is no public memorial for this," it added.

The current memorial has plaques dedicated to the names of local servicemen who lost their lives in World War One and World War Two.
