Two men have been arrested after a car was driven into a store entrance causing "significant damage".

Officers were called to JD Sports at the Arnison Centre, in Durham, at 23.15 GMT on Sunday, after a report of a car smashing into the shop front.

Durham Police said a man in his 30s had been arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, burglary, and possession of a class C drug.

A spokesperson for the sports firm said no-one was injured.

"We will reopen our store in Durham once it is safe to do so and we continue to work closely with the police around this incident," the spokesperson added.

A man in his 40s was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The men remain in custody while enquiries are carried out.
