The Lynchwood Bus shelter within the business park has been repeatedly targeted

A local councillor is calling for CCTV to be installed because a "well-used" bus shelter has been repeatedly vandalised.

The shelter, within the Lynchwood Business Park in Peterborough, has been targeted 12 times in as many months, according to Julie Stevenson.

Ms Stevenson, an independent councillor for Orton Waterville, said damage was caused "regularly, particularly during the evening or weekends".

Peterborough City Council which maintains the shelter, said it was working to ensure any vandalised shelters were made safe.

Ms Stevenson said the incidents are occurring “regularly particularly during the evening or weekends.”

A spokesperson for the authority added: “We can confirm that we have dealt with several incidents of vandalism of bus shelters at Lynchwood over the past year.

“Anyone with information about the incidents should contact police.”

Despite the repeated damage, bus services have continued without disruption, the council added.

Ms Stevenson said: “The bus shelter is well used during the daytime. But in the evenings it’s very quiet around there.

“It’s happened so many times that it’s getting boring now."

She said "mindless acts" of vandalism "served no purpose", adding: "It's unacceptable.”

Cambridgeshire Police said a previous incident of vandalism at the bus stop was reported on 8 October last year.

To date, there have been no arrests.
