A dog has been seized after a man suffered serious injuries to his arm.

Police were called to Mayfair Avenue in Middlesbrough at about 20:00 BST on Monday, and an Akita-type dog was taken away from the scene.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control.

The injured man, 26, was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he is still receiving treatment, Cleveland Police said.

A force spokesman said: "The dog was seized and is currently in a secure police facility whilst the woman is questioned and other enquiries continue."
