Liverpool New Town 'won't wait for Westminster'

'North Liverpool' will span a 5km area in the city between Sefton and Liverpool city centre

Local authorities in Liverpool have committed to deliver substantial housing growth and investment across the north of the city as part of a 10-year vision for the area.
'North Liverpool' will span the area between Sefton and Liverpool, including Everton, Greatie Market, Anfield, Kirkdale and the Bootle New Strand development project.
The news comes despite the fact that Westminster didn't include the city's proposal in its New Town initiative.
Liverpool City Council, Sefton Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have promised to regenerate brownfield sites in the area and accelerate housing delivery, economic growth and sustainability.
'Biggest regeneration opportunities'
Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said he was "incredibly frustrated" their New Town proposal wasn't taken forward.
"This is one of the biggest regeneration opportunities in the country and today's decision is a missed chance for government to back communities," he said.
"But regeneration here hasn't waited for Westminster; from Everton's new stadium at Bramley-Moore to the transformation of Bootle Strand".

Councillor Marion Atkinson, leader of Sefton Council, echoed the mayor's sentiments, telling BBC Radio Merseyside the rejection is "the start, not the end".
"We were absolutely clear when we first started this project that we weren't going to let this go.
"We will still be working towards delivering the New Town - we will find different ways to do it and that will still mean working with government [and] working with Homes England."
