Postmaster Steven Boyd said it was "absolutely fantastic" to bring the Post Office back to Plymstock

A Devon postmaster said it is important people use their Post Office ahead of a branch's return.

The store on Plymstock Broadway is set to open at 13:00 BST on 9 October following local campaigns to bring the service back to the suburb of Plymouth.

The area has not had a Post Office since 2023 after a branch closed inside a newsagents when the shop shut down.

Postmaster Steven Boyd said being able bring the facility back to Plymstock was "absolutely fantastic", especially at a time when many Post Offices were closing nationally.

Mr Boyd said along with regular post, the site would also offer services such as banking, gift items and a place for people to buy newspapers.

He added the Plymstock community's "noise and enthusiasm" had helped bring the store back and it was important they used it.

"Most Post Offices are small independent businesses, so they have to be run to make profit," Mr Boyd, who also runs Post Offices in the Peverell and Ernesettle areas of Plymouth, said.

"They've got staff, rent and business rates to pay.

"The most important thing a community can do is actually utilise their Post Office to the maximum because that will mean they get longevity from the building."
