Thousands attend cathedral's immersive light show

The cathedral believed about 7,000 people visited the building during the Starlight event

About 7,000 people visited a light and sound show at Peterborough Cathedral, which saw huge art projections broadcast on to the building.

The cathedral thanked visitors who attended Starlight by Luxmuralis last week, adding that events like this were "vital" to keep the building running.

It said the show was the result of "countless hours of preparation and dedication" from staff and volunteers.

"It costs four pounds per minute just to keep our beautiful cathedral open," said head of marketing and communications, Paul Stainton.

"We are thankful that so many people came to see it and enjoyed themselves so much.

"The cathedral is the main footfall driver in the city centre and we are pleased that our boost in footfall benefits the many other businesses. It's fantastic that we can all work together for mutual benefit."

There was a free outdoor display, along with a ticketed event inside the building.

This week, more than 4,000 people are expected to visit the cathedral's Christmas market on Friday and Saturday.

More than 100 stalls and local businesses will be taking part, it said.
