An investigation is continuing as six people are now believed to have been injured in a dog attack in Bardon Hill.

Leicestershire Police said it received reports people had been bitten by dogs in Beveridge Lane at 06:30 BST and 07:44 on Thursday.

A 17-year-old girl and a 47-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog in a public place.

None of the people injured are believed to have suffered serious injuries but they required medical treatment, according to police.

Firearms officers were deployed to the scene and two dogs were found, with one being sedated to allow its safe removal from the scene, the force added.

Both dogs, which are now in secure kennels, have been confirmed as being Caucasian shepherds.

Police said the 47-year-old man was also arrested for a further two offences under the Animal Welfare Act.

Both the 47-year-old man and 17-year-old girl have been released under investigation while officers continue their inquiries.

Due to a prior report being made to police concerning the dogs, the force has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
