A man who was found dead following a house fire died as a result of a stabbing, the police have said.

The body of Zbigniew Wasiak was found inside the bungalow on Wootton Avenue in Fletton, Peterborough, after emergency crews were called at about 03:35 BST on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination on Wednesday found the 59-year-old died from a single stab wound to his neck.

A 29-year-old woman and 39-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

On Wednesday, two 35-year-old men from Peterborough were also arrested on suspicion of murder.

All four people remained in police custody at Thorpe Wood police station.

In a previous statement, Det Insp Dale Mepstead from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said the initial inquiries would focus on establishing why the fire was started at the home.

"We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly if you live in the area of Wootton Avenue and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious around the time of the incident," he added.

"I understand this is likely to be concerning to the local community, but we believe it to be an isolated incident, and we have extra patrols in the area."
