A charity swimarathon in Guernsey has raised nearly £70,000 for local charities.

Organisers said more than 1,700 swimmers, volunteers and supporters took part in the five-day event at Beau Sejour in October.

The final fundraising total of £68,500, which surpassed 2024's figure, will go to main beneficiary St John Guernsey LBG and other local charities.

Charlotte Dunsterville, chief commercial officer at Skipton International, said the amount of money raised was "a phenomenal achievement".

Ms Dunsterville said: "The Swimarathon continues to bring Guernsey together in a way that's fun, inclusive and meaningful.

"We're proud to support an event that makes such a tangible difference to local lives."

Heather Langlois, chief executive officer of St John Guernsey LBG, added: "This funding will help us expand our first aid education, youth programmes and community services across the island.

"We're so grateful to everyone who swam, donated or volunteered, your support helps us save lives and care for our community."

Next year, the organisation will mark its 50th Skipton Swimarathon.

Organisers said plans were already in place to make 2026 "the biggest yet, with more teams, more swimmers, and even more fundraising fun".
