A hospital maternity team is celebrating a top rating over its treatment of patients in a national survey by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The survey found those giving birth felt confidence and trust in staff during their care at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) maternity team.

Director of midwifery, Zita Martinez, said she was "thrilled" about the "fantastic" feedback from people in their care.

The national 2024 Maternity Survey looked at the experiences of people who gave birth in February this year.

It included questions over antenatal care through to labour, birth and post-natal care and considered attention given during labour and birth.

Feedback included praise over the dignity and respect people were treated with.

Ms Martinez said: "I am thrilled to receive this fantastic feedback from the people we care for, [which is] a reflection of the hard work and commitment from all our maternity staff."

She added that "everyone matters" at the hospital, so it was "great to see how women and birthing people felt they were treated with dignity and respect".

She said that although the results were fantastic, the team will continue to look at how it can further improve maternity care.

Earlier this year, the RUH's maternity team retained its outstanding rating from the CQC, meaning it is in the top 3% of maternity departments in England.
