Police work with schools to create bright mosaic

Devon and Cornwall Police said the mosaic created by local schools has helped bring life to an unused building in Torquay

Police officers have been working with primary schools in Devon to create a colourful mosaic.
Torquay officers, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said a wall of an unused building was "transformed" and the new artwork had bought "new life into the town centre".
The force approached three schools in the area to ask students aged between five and 10 to design the mosaic reflecting the town and its "community spirit".
The artwork, in the covered shelter on Torre Abbey Meadows, was unveiled on 11 July.

Devon and Cornwall Police said three schools were involved in the project
Police said the project was part of the ongoing effort to build "positive relationships with local people" to strengthen trust and confidence.
PC Wes Abercrombie and PC Trevor Thomas led the mural project and said it was an effective way to connect with students and break down any barriers.
“Unless someone gets into trouble with the police, they might not actually ever speak to an officer," said PC Thomas.
“It is clear that the children and teachers worked really hard on the mosaics, they all look fantastic."
