Town carnival marks 50th birthday

Ledbury Carnival's procession included a section for people using mobility scooters and wheelchairs

A Herefordshire town has held its 50th annual carnival.

Janet Meredith, one of the organisers of Monday's event, said Ledbury Carnival's long-running success was down to involving the local community in every aspect of the day.

“Ledbury Carnival deliberately involves local community groups, local businesses, local musicians - everything is local,” she said.

Among the features was an hour-long procession through town, which included a brass band and dance groups, plus a "very popular" section formed by people using mobility scooters and wheelchairs.

The theme for this year's event - which also featured children’s entertainment, live bands, and food stalls - was “Carnival Goes Gold”, in honour of the 50th birthday.

Worcestershire's annual Pershore Plum Festival, which showcases fruits, cookery and gardening demonstrations, will also conclude on Monday.
