A man and a woman are being sought by police who believe the pair are the last to have had contact with a woman found dead in Stoke-on-Trent city centre.

They were not suspects, Staffordshire Police said, but they may have vital information to assist the investigation into the 50-year-old’s death in Hanley on Sunday.

The force added that officers were continuing to treat the woman's death as unexplained.

She was found dead on Foundry Street at about 04:15 BST on Sunday, police said.

They said they believed she had been in the city centre from Saturday night and may have been lying in the doorway of a building until the early hours of Sunday.

They have carried out door-to-door inquiries and reviewed CCTV footage from the area.
