Dozens of classic cars go on display for charity

Guildford's classic car show is aiming to raise funds for community services

Dozens of classic cars dating from the 1920s to the 1980s have gone on display in a town centre in Surrey.

Organisers said 75 veteran, vintage and classic cars are taking part in the charity event in Guildford High Street on Sunday.

Guildford Lions Club said the show aims to raise money and awareness for community services like the air ambulance and spectacle recycling.

Organiser Vic Quayle said: "Classic cars are always popular."

All the cars on display are pre-1983, while the oldest dates from 1922.

Mr Quayle said the show was an "attraction" in Guildford because "people like to see what their dad used to have or what grandma used to".

He said he was particularly excited to see a Ford GT40, a replica of the car that won the Le Mans 24 Hours car race in 1969.

"I happened to see the original car and to see it win in 1969 - so I'm particularly keen to see that," he said.

Among the vehicles on display is a 1922 Trojan, three Armstrong Siddeley models, and Fiat 500 Topolino, also known as a "little mouse" in Italy.

Also on show will be a rare Citroen 2CV Charleston in yellow and black. It is one of only 25 believed to be in the UK, according to the club.

The event is free and will run until 16:00 BST. The High Street will be closed to all other traffic during the day.
