A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after a house fire in Hereford has been released on police bail while an investigation continues.

A man, 33, died at the scene of the blaze after suffering serious injuries, and a 56-year-old woman had to go to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

Flames broke out at about 19:00 BST on Thursday, on Charles Witts Avenue.

A nearby resident described the scene at the time as “carnage".

Nicola Yarranton told BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester last week: “It was horrible. I had my grandchildren here as well and they were crying."

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, described the woman in hospital as a “lovely and caring lady”.

She said the events had been "heartbreaking" and "distressing".
