A "large group" of teenagers brawled in the street and damaged a series of cars in what police said were "totally unacceptable" scenes of violence.

The group were broken up by officers in Audenshaw, Tameside, at about 12:00 BST after "alarmed" residents called 999.

One 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Greater Manchester Police also activated a dispersal order giving officers extended powers to order people to leave the area.

'Unacceptable'

The force said it had received calls reporting the suspects had gathered at a property in Droyslden Road when they began fighting and damaging cars in the street.

Ch Insp Dave Henthorne said: “This was an alarming incident for many residents in the area.

"The scenes of violence, disorder and criminal damage last night are totally unacceptable and it is very fortunate that no one was seriously hurt."

He urged anyone with any information to get in touch.
