A man is due in court after being charged with two counts of attempted murder after two people were stabbed in Exeter.

On Saturday emergency services attended the scene on Bampfylde Street at about 02:00 BST to reports of an assault with a knife, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed.

A 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were taken to hospital. The man is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery and the woman has been discharged, police said.

Leon Telemacque, 31, of Clements Road, Birmingham, was charged and remanded in custody and is due before Exeter Magistrates' Court on Monday 20 May.

Det Insp Paula Trevett said it had been a "fast-moving investigation".

“There will continue to be a police presence in the city centre while we carry out enquiries and offer reassurance.

“We do not believe there is a wider risk to the public and we would ask people not to speculate on social media as this could prejudice to any future court process.”
