Memorial service for those lost in Falklands

Adrian Anslow, who died in 1982, is one of those who will be remembered

A memorial service is to be held in Wolverhampton later to remember those lost in the Falklands conflict, including a 20-year-old local sailor.

Adrian Anslow died in 1982 when the vessel he was aboard exploded after it was hit by two missiles.

Last year a memorial bench was refurbished and rededicated to him in Anslow Gardens, in Ashmore Park.

On Friday, City of Wolverhampton Council's deputy mayor will lay a wreath at a public service to remember the British personnel who died from 10:50 BST at the Cenotaph in St Peter's Square.

Mr Anslow's mother Rosemary has previously described him as an "an amazing and very active person" who was always pursuing something.

Mr Anslow has Anslow Harbour, in the Falkland Islands, and Anslow Gardens, in Ashmore Park, named in his memory.

He has also been honoured at The Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire and a memorial plaque has been put up in Wolverhampton's Civic Centre.
