Everton Football Club has revealed plans for a series of gigs at Goodison Park to mark the club's farewell to a ground it has called home for more than 130 years.

The stadium is set to be demolished after the Toffees play their final match in May before moving to their new home, which is under construction at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.

A Farewell to Goodison Festival planned by the club will include live music along with events featuring the first team squad and past players including Lee Carsley, Thomas Gravesen, and Leon Osman.

The details have been revealed in a letter sent to thousands of Everton fans.

'A rare and unique opportunity'

The festival would run across three nights between 30 May and 1 June and would feature an afternoon of live music, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

If permissions were granted, the evening sessions would run from 17:00 to 22:00 BST with a Saturday show for young people between 13:00 and 15:00.

The Blues previously acquired the go-ahead for a live non-football event when boxer Tony Bellew won the vacant WBC cruiser-weight title in front of fans in 2016.

Each evening would feature a different genre of music including dance, pop and guitar music.

A stage for 20,000 fans could be built to host the three shows in front of the Gwladys Street end according to a letter sent to fans by Everton in the Community's neighbourhood manager Sarah Atherton.

She said the events would allow "a rare and unique opportunity to experience an event of this nature at Goodison Park".

A series of public meetings are to be held regarding the proposals later this month.
