Warning after disposable barbecue bin fire
- Published
The fire service has issued a warning about using disposable barbecues after a bin caught fire in Cornwall.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to a bin on fire at Polzeath beach car park at about 22:45 BST on Tuesday.
A video taken by Polzeath beach rangers showed the bin alight, and the fire service confirmed members of the public had "smothered the fire with sand" before the crews arrived which "prevented further spread".
The fire service said people should dispose of barbecues "safely" and "never leave them unattended".
The service added that people should let barbecues cool completely, preferably using water or sand, before moving them.
