People in Jersey are being called on to take a dip in the sea to raise money for two charities.

The 12 Bays of Christmas challenge will kick off at 10:00 GMT at Bouley Bay, with all swimmers encouraged to come in festive fancy dress.

Particpants are then challenged to swim in 11 other of the islands' bays, which have been festively renamed, before 31 December.

The event is raising money through sponsorship and entry fees for Jersey Hospice Care, external and the National Trust for Jersey., external

Participants will also receive tips and information about how to stay safe during and after a cold water swim and wearing a wetsuit will be optional.

Organisers said the emphasis was for people to take part within in their own limitations so there was no target time, distance or number of strokes to swim.
