A refurbished leisure centre which closed when it ran into financial difficulties has partially reopened.

The Ships & Castles site, which was shut by Cornwall Council in 2022, has been renamed Pendennis Community Centre.

It was taken over by the Pendennis Leisure Charity after the land was sold to Falmouth Town Council for £1.

The new venue will feature a cafe, two studios and a timetable of classes.

Gemma Adams, a trustee and volunteer at Pendennis Leisure, told BBC radio Cornwall that its relaunch had been "brilliant, really really lovely".

She said: “The sun’s shining, loads of people have been up here, classes have been running, lots of coffee and cake, it’s been great to get reopened.

“We’ve got lots of bookings but people can come and just rock up and pay for a class here."

Ms Adams said it was still a "work in progress", but it would "adapt as we go along".

"We’re really happy with how it’s going and we’ve got to keep focused on the bigger picture of trying to get our swimming pool back up here."
