An airfield owned by film director Guy Ritchie is to hold its first air show.

Compton Abbas Airfield, in north Dorset, will host the event on 10 and 11 August - the same month the nearby Bournemouth Air Festival is held.

Ritchie's Ashcombe Estates bought Compton Abbas Airfield in October 2022.

The airfield has been revamped since, with Ritchie saying he wanted to make it a "more complete experience".

The Aero Legends Takes Flight: Golden Age of Aviation Air Show promises "thrilling aerial displays, vintage aircraft, and a celebration of aviation history".

Benjamin Perkins, managing director at Aero Legends, said: "This event is not just a showcase of our passion for aviation but a tribute to the pioneers who shaped the course of flight history."

Compton Abbas Airfield first opened in 1961, according to the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust.

It was run by the same family for 35 years before Ritchie bought it.

The director, who runs his Gritchie brewery from Ashgrove Farm in nearby Ashmore, told Flyer magazine, external he wanted "to take aviation more seriously, particularly in terms of the heritage aspect" adding he was "interested in the aesthetic of that".
