A "lawless" 18-year-old who took part in a night of violent disorder in a Leeds suburb where a bus was torched and a police car was flipped over has been jailed.

Trouble flared in Harehills on 18 July 2024 after police were called to assist social workers taking four children into emergency foster care.

Tiuga, of Seaforth Place, Leeds, admitted using or threatening unlawful violence at Leeds Crown Court earlier and was sentenced to two years and two months at a young offender institution on Tuesday.

West Yorkshire Police have so far made made 85 arrests and charged 46 people as part of the ongoing investigation into the disorder.

A police spokesperson said Tiuga was described in court as having "demonstrated lawless behaviour and playing an instrumental part in the disorder".

They added that substantial work has also been carried out in Harehills with partners since last July to help communities recover from the disorder.
