Police have released a description of a suspect wanted in connection with a serious assault in Inverness.

A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked in the city's Merkinch area at about 23:20 on Sunday.

The suspect is described as a man about 5ft 8in to 6ft tall and of medium build. He was wearing a light-coloured hat and dark-coloured clothing, including a black padded jacket with a hood.

Det Insp Caroline Mackay said: "Our inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and who may have seen anyone matching the description given to get in touch, external."

The detective added: "We are particularly keen to speak to anyone with dashcam, doorbell or other recorded footage which could be relevant to our investigation.

"I would also like to thank members of the public for their cooperation and assistance so far as we continue our inquiries."
