Man killed in 100ft cave fall

A man has died after falling 100ft (30m) into a cave in North Yorkshire.
The man was among a group of cavers exploring Diccan Pot, near Horton in Ribblesdale, on Sunday, when he fell to his death.
The Cave Rescue Organisation said the man had been on the first pitch - or vertical section - when another member of the group heard a bang and the rope went taut.
A spokesperson said after volunteers had reached the man, he was brought to the surface where he was pronounced dead.
They said: "We hope that the caver's family will find comfort in the fact that he was doing what he enjoyed so much and we regret that we could not have done anything to save him."
Diccan Pot is part of the Alum Pot system, which according to the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a "dramatic open shaft" located on the slopes of Ingleborough.
Underground, Alum Pot connects with Diccan Pot and Long Churns cave - the latter of which is considered one of the most popular beginner caving trips in the Yorkshire Dales.
