Leisure centre gets short-term boost from £15k

Teme Leisure, which has run the centre since 2008, said talks were continuing in a search for a long-term solution

An under-threat leisure centre will remain open until the end of March after funding was found to keep it going.
The centre in Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire, was set to close at the end of the year after Teme Leisure, which has run it since 2008, announced plans to hand the contract back to Shropshire Council.
Since then, The Friends of Cleobury Sports Centre group has raised more than £15,000 to keep it running while a long-term solution was searched for.
Teme Leisure thanked them for their efforts and said it had agreed an extension until April with the council.
A spokesperson for the organisation said the money raised would allow it to "fund the operational deficit".
They said talks would continue between Teme Leisure, The Friends of Cleobury Sports Centre, Cleobury Town Council and Shropshire Council to find funding to keep it open until the end of July 2027.
At that point the spokesperson said they expected a new leisure contract would begin.
