A hospital car park has been shut after a piece of medical equipment exploded.

Firefighters were called to Kidderminster General Hospital in Worcestershire at about 09:35 BST on Friday following reports of the explosion in the car park, the fire service said

Police have put a 50m (164ft) cordon in place as they said the emergency was ongoing.

While the hospital was not affected by the blast and no injuries were reported, people were asked by NHS staff to use the building by the Sutton Road entrance.

The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust posted on social media: "All hospital services are still running as normal, and patients with scheduled appointments should continue to attend as planned.

"The Minor Injuries Unit remains open as usual."
