A BBC rugby league commentator who was afraid of water as a child has finished a swimming challenge for charity.

James Deighton was part of a team of five BBC Radio Leeds presenters who swam a mile a day for five days as part of the The Thousand Mile Challenge for BBC Children in Need 2024.

He said: "That eight-year-old boy that was terrified and scared and embarrassed is feeling pretty proud of himself right now."

The broadcaster completed the challenge alongside colleagues Katherine Hannah, Nick Ahad, Emily Pilbeam and Sarah Wakefield.

Sport presenter Ms Hannah said: "The whole team have been amazing to keep going. If anybody thinks this is not a challenge, this was absolutely a challenge, but it’s for such a good cause."
