Flights in the Channel Islands are delayed after a technical issue hit air traffic services in the UK.

Officials at Guernsey Ports warned of knock-on delays on services to and from the island's airport.

Jersey passengers were being advised to check with their airline as usual unless told otherwise.

The issue was detected at the NATS Swanwick air traffic control centre in Southampton.

All outbound UK flights have been affected, with Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham among airports reporting delays

National Air Traffic Services said the system that was affected by the technical issue had since been restored and it was working to minimise disruption.

A spokesman for Guernsey Airport said: "We understand all systems have been restored but unfortunately there may be knock-on delays to services to and from Guernsey Airport.

"If you are due to travel, please check in as normal unless advised otherwise by your airline.

"We are working with our airline partners to help minimise any impact on affected passengers."
