The family of Sebastian Sailes, 21, whose body was found after an extensive police search, have said they are "shattered" but have thanked the community and police.

He was reported missing on 27 February after he left the Black Horse Pub in Chippenham, Wiltshire, and his body recovered from the River Avon on 11 March.

"Anyone who ever knew him will remember his enthusiasm and passion for life, but above all his kind and generous spirit," his family said.

Wiltshire Police teams were supported in the search by other forces but also by volunteers from search and rescue groups and local residents.

Police and volunteers searched for Sebastian for more than a week.

"As a family we are shattered by Seb's passing and each day try to find the strength to remember the remarkable young man he had become. He will forever be in our hearts and minds" they said.

They expressed "sincere appreciation" for the "incredible support" from the community.

Seb's family said "sadly, bad things happen to good people".

"Sadly, bad things happen to good people, but the outpouring of support from this country and far beyond has been truly inspiring and reminded us that this world is blessed with many decent and loving people," the family statement added.

It described Wiltshire Police as "truly outstanding" for its "dedication, commitment and empathy".
