Widow organises expanded 'community' twilight walk

The widow of a man who died 14 months after being diagnosed with three aggressive brain tumours says she hopes the second edition of a twilight walk in his honour will bring a community together.

Diane Devereux, from Rushden in Northamptonshire, lost her husband, Dean, 53, in 2022, just three months before she was given "the all clear" from her own colon cancer.

This year's event will again be held from 15:30 GMT on Saturday at the town's Hall Park, with people invited to join the three mile (5km) walk for the event in support of the Brain Tumour Charity.

More than 100 people attended the first walk last year and Mrs Devereux said the event had been expanded with entertainment for 2025.

A raffle, silent auction and hat stall with "cracking good designs" knitted by local people will feature, alongside some activities for children.

She said: "If excitement and enthusiasm has anything to do with it, it's going to be fabulous."

Dean Devereux was extremely active and was a keen cyclist, runner and was a vegetarian, Diane said

Mrs Devereux explained that she initially organised last year's walk after feeling unable to attend the charity's national twilight walk in central London.

She said: "I just wanted somebody to walk with me and we ended up with about 120 people.

"There was a sea of red twilight walk T-shirts. The support was incredible, and we all had the link of wanting to do something because of brain tumours."
