Trial markets are to open in Folkestone as part of a town improvement programme.

Stalls selling food, art and crafts will line Guildhall Street and Sandgate Road over the coming months.

Folkestone and Hythe District Council said the Folke About Town programme was created with the aim of bringing “vibrancy” to the roads.

Rich Holgate, cabinet member for the district economy, said: “There’s something for everyone.”

An enhanced version of the regular market will be held on 24 August and 5 October, while an art market offering work by independent local artists will be held on 14 September.

A continental market offering cheese and cured meats will take place from 19-22 September.

Test events for Folke About Town are being co-produced with the community.

Cllr Holgate said: “I’d encourage everyone to come down and check out what is on offer, with a wide variety of goods from food, clothes and art there’s something for everyone.”

The trial events follow the Folkestone Food Festival, which brought 700 people into the town and generated income for local businesses and traders, the council added.
