Traffic management officers are to be deployed in a Lincolnshire town to ease congestion.

With schools re-opening following the summer break, residents in Grantham have voiced concerns that roadworks happening in several areas of the town could bring traffic to a standstill.

Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said it had plans in place to reduce congestion, including manually managing temporary traffic lights, postponing planned disruption and directing traffic at pinch points.

He said: "As the schools go back, we’re undoubtedly going to see more traffic on the roads, and it’s going to be a difficult week in Grantham."

Roadworks postponed

Currently, there are works happening on Dysart Road, Station Road and Market Place in the town centre.

Mr Davies said traffic management officers would be stationed at Harlaxton Road railway bridge, where traffic was "blocking up, and causing knock-on problems elsewhere".

He also said works on High Dyke and at a pedestrian crossing on Barrowby Road had both been postponed until the situation eases.

Mr Davies also said works to the town's Market Place were "almost finished", with the Conduit Lane section due to be completed shortly.
