Firefighters have been battling a "significant" blaze at a traveller site, a service said.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Magpie Farm in Upper Caldecote, near Biggleswade, at 16:28 BST on Monday.

A service spokesperson said: "On arrival firefighters were met by a significant fire involving machinery, trees and propane cylinders.

"Firefighters, who are wearing breathing apparatus, have sectorised the fire and are currently tackling it using four hose reels and jets with water from a water carrier."

Crews from Biggleswade, Kempston, Sandy and Shefford were called to the scene.

An incident command unit was set up and thermal imaging cameras were used to monitor the fire, the fire service added.
