A man has been remanded into custody for his part in disorder that broke out in Birmingham after three girls were killed in Southport last year.

The details of the case against Adam Said were not opened by Birmingham Crown Court on Monday after he pleaded guilty to violent disorder by "using or threatening unlawful violence" on 5 August last year.

The 20-year-old was among a group that gathered in Birmingham following false rumours of a far-right march as riots spread across the country.

Southport attacker Axel Rudakubana admitted murdering the girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.

The 18-year-old stabbed Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, along with 10 others on 29 July last year.

Judge Simon Drew KC said Adam Said's sentencing hearing in February would likely include the viewing of a 15-minute video of footage relevant to the violent disorder charge.

He told Said, of Washwood Heath Road and who has no previous convictions: "I am ordering the preparation of a pre-sentence report about you, your background and circumstances.

"It will consider alternatives to custody. Obviously, I indicate to you that all sentencing options will be open in this case."

A charge of perverting the course of justice was allowed to lie on file.

He will be sentenced at the same court on 24 February.
