A man has been sentenced to nine years in jail for attempted murder following a knife attack in Edinburgh.

Patrick Moohan stabbed the 48-year-old man near a bus stop on London Road in the Abbeyhill area of the city on 14 April this year. The victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

Det Sgt Craig McMillan described the incident as an "extremely vicious display of violence".

Moohan, 48, admitted the charge at the High Court on Thursday and was sentenced the same day.
