A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a four-year-old girl ended up in a critical condition when she was struck by a firework.

The girl was hit on Bonfire Night in Elm Street, Burnley, at about 20:47 BST and remains in hospital with several serious injuries.

Lancashire Constabulary said the 15-year-old, from the town, had been arrested on suspicion of statutory public nuisance and remained in custody.

A force spokesman said the arrest related to the alleged supply of fireworks and repeated an appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
