City centre street shut as bin fire causes gas leak

Gas engineers are set to attend the scene on the High Street in Southampton according to the fire service

Buildings have been evacuated and a cordon has been put in place after a bin fire led to a gas leak in a busy city centre.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted shortly after 19:00 BST to a fire in a bin behind a commercial premises on the High Street in Southampton.
Crews from St Mary's, Hightown and Eastleigh arrived to extinguish the fire but found nearby gas units had been damaged leading to a leak.
Emergency services evacuated adjacent buildings and around 20 firefighters are working alongside the police, with gas engineers also set to attend the scene.
