A 79-year-old woman who was hit by a reversing van has died, police have said.

Cheryl Decarteret died in hospital on Wednesday following the incident in Lowbourne, Melksham, on Saturday.

Another woman in her 70s, who was also involved in incident, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"This is a desperately sad update and our thoughts are with Cheryl's family at this time," said DC Leigh Mayhew, from Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Police added a 25-year-old man from Melksham, who was driving the van, remained on bail while investigations continued.

DC Mayhew said: "Our investigation into the collision is continuing and we remain really keen to hear from anyone who may have captured CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident or the lead up to it.

"Any small piece of footage could be vital to allow us to progress our inquiries."
