A drink driver crashed his car into a telegraph pole causing damage to street lights, telegraph poles, property walls and vehicles.

Joshua Burnham Smith, 18, of Deans Way in Coventry, was driving a Ford Fiesta when it crashed into the pole and turned over during the early hours of 7 April. Two passengers in the car suffered minor injuries.

He pleaded guilty to four charges including drink driving and having no insurance at Leamington Magistrates Court on 18 October. He also admitted possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, which police said was an extendable baton, and driving without due care and attention.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £900.

PC James Heath said Smith drove "carelessly, showing no consideration for other people who may be using the road that night".

“He was also extremely irresponsible in choosing to drive. He had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood (81 milligrams) and two passengers in the car.”
