A woman has been arrested after a hit-and-run incident left a pedestrian in hospital with serious injuries.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, was hit by a car on the A329 Caversham Road, near the junction of Abattoirs Road in Reading, Berkshire, on Friday at about 04:00 BST.

Thames Valley Police said the vehicle was believed to have visible damage to the front, including a broken windscreen, but the make and model has not yet been established.

A 29-year-old woman, from Reading, was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Det Sgt Robert Chevalier said: " I would like to appeal to anybody who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get in touch.

"I'd ask people to please check doorbell, dash-cam and CCTV footage to see if it has captured anything that may assist the investigation."
